The Origins of Needling Therapies
'Not Made In China'
The art of needling in its original form dates back thousands of years and is a practice that has been use by many cultures and groups of people from early civilisations. It is dates back to 4000 years BC in the times of ancient Egypt and even as far as 10,000 years BC in the times of the Stone Age and Neolithic times. It is understood that sharp stones and even fish bones were the instruments used to penetrate the skin.
It has always been known that needling the body at a point will have an effect on the body, to support relief of pain and aid in illness and disease. This comes well before the modern day understanding of anatomy and physiology and that every part of our physical body is connected in some way, either via the nervous system or by the fact that the human cell exists and ultimately we are a bundle of cells packed tightly together.

Carefully crafted pointed instruments were used ranging from thorns or the needles of a cactus plant to even the spikes of a porcupine animal in the North American region. In Africa it was known that scratching the surface of the skin on the body was used to aid disease. Discovery of ‘therapeutic tattoos’ on the skin of a mummified human indicates that needling had therapeutic consequences.

What actually is this mechanism that seems to help and develop the human body in its physical form and also develop an awareness that is only in its embryonic state at present? If a measurement of vitality is found in ones state of awareness then the magic of accessing this is found in joining the dots to re-connect what is already living within, which is perhaps why needles of some form have been used to tap into this part of ourselves for many hundreds and thousands of years.
